Abstract
A relationship between an absorptionspectrum and a corresponding Raman excitation spectrum has been derived from the optical theorem, the Kramers–Kronig relations and the well known recurrence relations for harmonic oscillator functions. The relations are given for both fundamentals, overtones and combination bands in the Raman spectrum. The relation for the fundamentals is similar to the relation proposed by Tonks and Page, but it is shown here that it is only strictly valid at zero temperature, contrary to their claim that it is valid at all temperatures. Keywords
