Abstract
For decades it has been assumed that the currency of computation in the brain is the rate at which neurons fire all-or-none action potentials. Until recently. Now neuroscientists are considering whether a more complex "temporal code" may really be the coin of the neural realm. In his Perspective, Fetz brings us up to date on the evidence for these two ideas, discussing how evidence from a report in this issue by [ Riehle et al. ][1] tips the scales in favor of temporal coding.
