Abstract
Tulip poplars in a 6 yr old landscape planting were severely stunted as a result of a root disease characterized by black scabby lesions in cortical tissues. A pathogen was identified and described as C. liriodendri sp. nov. In greenhouse inoculations, C. liriodendri appeared less virulent than C. floridanum to tulip poplar, although symptoms produced by the 2 pathogens were very similar.
