Abstract
The requirements that are placed on a relativistically invariant theory by the assumption that single-particle states with different masses are included in the same multiplet are examined. This assumption implies first that the Lie algegra of the symmetry group which includes the generators of both the Lorentz and internal transformations must also have an infinite number of other elements, and secondly, that the direct product of any two single-particle multiplets is irreducible. Keywords
