Abstract
The problems that arise from deep venous thrombosis include pulmonary embolism, invalidating postphlebitic syndromes, and loss of life and limb in the acute phase. When venous thrombosis is established, all the therapeutic measures have to be applied: anticoagulation, elevation and bandaging to avoid complications. But the main venous channels must be reopened and unimpeded venous backflow restored. Disobliteration of the obstructed veins can only be achieved by fibrinolysis or surgical thrombectomy. Ileofemoral venous thrombectomy was used in more than 280 patients. Indications for thrombectomy and the contraindications for fibrinolysis were reported. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
