Abstract
The administration of 40-50 cc of antimony pyr-ocatechol sodium sulfate (Fuadin) in 15 to 19 days to 22 patients with S. mansoni infection resulted in a treatment failure rate of 60%. Unsuccessful treatments were reduced to 28% among 24 cases given 19-57 cc of the drug in 5 days. Best therapeutic results were obtained in a group given the largest amounts (1 cc per kilogram) in 5 days, but the incidence of serious toxicity was high among the patients treated in 5 days, and this procedure is regarded as unsafe. Dimercaprol (BAL) seemed to be of clinical value in 2 cases of severe Fuadin intoxication. This drug had no detectable effect on the ecg changes produced by Fuadin in 3 cases. Keywords
