Abstract
Infectious syphilis has declined, with fluctuations, from about 6000 cases per year in 1919 to 150 per year in 1955. About 20,000 cases of gonorrhea were reported in 1919. After various fluctuations the number has remained stabilized since 1951 at about 14,000 cases per year. It is suggested that this continued high level may be due to long incubation periods and mild symptoms in the male and improper[long dash]chemotherapy. It is concluded that the venereal disease problem is not yet solved in Sweden.
