Squamous carcinoma arising in benign cystic teratoma of the ovary.A report of four cases and review of the literature

Abstract
Four cases of squamous carcinoma arising in benign cystic teratoma of the ovary are presented, with a detailed correlation of clinical, operative and pathological findings with prognosis. Confinement of tumor to the ovary, with an intact ovarian capsule, is the most important prognostic factor since patients with extracapsular extension succumb to their disease within 2 years. The literature dealing with this subject is reviewed.
