Abstract
In a multimode fiber (MMF) transmission system, the power penalty due to intersymbol interference (ISI) caused by the differential mode delay (DMD) is one of the main contributors to the total penalties in the link budget. We demonstrated using equalization techniques to overcome the signal degradation caused by differential modal delay in a conventional (62.5 /spl mu/m) MMF. 10-Gb/s transmissions through a 1.5-km-long MMF were realized. In principle, this method can be applied to achieve nearly any loss-limited distance. Keywords
