Abstract
Although records can be found of only 9 cases of kala-azar formerly diagnosed in Somalia, the author has observed 12, all from the ares of the Middle Webi Shebeli, since Aug. 1963. All patients were of the Galjal or other nomadic tribe. Treatment with Fouadin was successful. The disease may be more widespread than this, especially in areas adjacent to known endemic preas in Darbaruk (formerly British Somaliland) and Jubaland near Kenya.
