Ventricular Defibrillation by Monophasic Trapezoidal-shaped Double-pulses of Low Electrical Energy

Abstract
A method of sequential ventricular defibrillation using monophasic double-pulses of trapezoidal shape and of variable voltage, width, and separation is described, and its portable apparatus presented. Results in experimental ventricular fibrillation in open-chest dogs showed an 80% success rate using the two pulses at a critical separation of 100 msec and an average total energy of 2·4 J.
