ENZYME SYSTEMS IN THE MYCOBACTERIA

Abstract
The triphosphopyridine nucleotide-isocitric dehydrogenase of Mycobacterium tuberculosis strain H37Ra was isolated and investigated. This enzyme is similar to that previously isolated from animal tissues with respect to metal ion activation, pH optimum, Ks values and coenzyme specificity. alpha-Ketoglutarate is formed quantitatively from isocitrate. The enzyme is inhibited by p-chloromercuribenzoate.
