Abstract
Hemagglutinins and hemolysins for O. T.-treated red cells in the sera of tuberculin-negative cows were destroyed by exposure to 70[degree]C for 10 minutes. Heat-stable antibodies were present in the sera of 62.5% of tuberculous cows and in 16% of tuberculous humans. Heat-stable antibodies also were detected in sera of rabbits infected with M tuberculosis (Ravenel). The hemagglutinins appeared early in the infection along with heat-labile hemagglutinins and hemolysins. The heat-stable hemolysin appeared later and titers of both heat-stable forms continued to rise until the rabbits died. Heat-stable agglutinins and hemolysins appeared in a similar manner in rabbits injected with M phlei and B.C.G., although titers in anti-B.C.G. sera were lower. Several injections of P.P.D. were required to stimulate heat-stable antibodies in rabbits, both hemagglutinins and hemolysins usually appearing after the 2d injection. Keywords
