Abstract
Summary Modifications by additions of various sera and amino acids of the basic medium of embryo extract did not enhance the development of Trichinella spiralis. Numerous male and female worms developed four distinct sheaths and a few worms even as many as six sheaths, which suggest that probably both sexes molt four or more times during maturation. Sex could be differentiated as early as 17 hours in both male and female worms Although complete maturation was not obtained, the copulatory bell or everted cloaca and copulatory appendages in the male and the vagina and vulva in the female show that it is possible to obtain in vitro developing adults that can be sexually differentiated. Keywords
