Abstract
Pneumococcus Type XIV, relatively aviru-lent for mice, is a frequent invader of children, especially at ages under 6 yrs.; afterwards it surrenders its dominance to Pneum6coccus Type I. With Pneumococcus Type I it causes 31% of pneumococcus pneumonias of children, usually lobar of prolonged course. It frequently invades pleura, pericardium and meninges. In adults it is more fatal and frequently invades the blood stream. Antiserum, made in horses, gives promise of usefulness, especially in infants under two years where mortality is relatively high. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
