Abstract
Depression is a public health problem that adversely affects patients, their partners and families, the workplace, and general health care. In the United States, depressive disorders cause substantial disability, with an annual economic burden estimated at $65 billion.1 Approximately 18 million Americans are diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD) annually; 12 million to 18 million are treated with antidepressants, primarily for depression and anxiety disorders.2Keywords
