Abstract
A methylation method was established with carbendazim (2-metoxycarbonylamino-benzimidazole), which employed trimethylanilinium hydroxide as an alkylation reagent. The final product of the flash-heater methylation appeared as the dimethyl derivative of carbendazim (2-metoxycarbonyl-N-methylamino-1-methyl benzimidazole), which was qualitatively identified and quantitatively determined by means of GLC. Chromatographic response was observed to be linear with the increased concentration for the synthetic standard and the flash-heater product of carbendazim. The linear behaviour of chromatographic response was preserved for the nanogram levels. The obtained standards, i.e., mono- and dimethyl carbendazim, were analytically identified by means of UV, IR, and MS.
