Abstract
Limitations of transmission capacity and distance of amplified multiwavelength transmission systems by four-wave mixing (FWM) are studied in the presence of optical amplifier noise and fibre dispersion. It is proposed that the FWM effect can be greatly reduced by using two kinds of fibre with different zero-dispersion wavelengths, resulting in an increased system transmission capacity. Keywords
