Tropospheric Scatter System Using Angle Diversity

Abstract
This paper proposes an extension of the angle diversity technique as a means towards solution of several problems restricting use of over-the-horizon microwave communications. The paper suggests application of a microwave multibeam system as an attack on the problems of transmitter tube limitations, "medium to aperture" coupling loss, and UHF-band interference. A simple experimnent is described and results evaluated. The experiment provides a measure of verification of previous theoretical work on which the proposed technique is based. Results of numerous path calculations are included to provide the reader with an estimate of improvement to be gained by the use of this expansion of the angle diversity technique over a conventional system.Keywords
