Abstract
The study of friendship in children has long been a neglected area of human development. As Hartup (1975) pointed out, there is a paucity of data both with respect to the nature of the interactional process between friends and the language children use in conceptualizing friendship. The purpose of the present investigation was to examine the interactional process in preadolescent friendships within the framework of Harry Stack Sullivan's social development theory. Keywords
