Abstract
Cercariae of S. japonicum may be carried from fresh-water rivers into the ocean, creating a bathing hazard in salt water near the river mouths. Field and laboratory studies were conducted on Leyte, P. I., to determine survival of the cercariae in NaCl solns. and in dilutions of sea water. Exptl. results indicate that bathing in ocean water with a 3% salinity is safe, but that bathing in sea water with a salinity below 1.5% may be dangerous.
