Abstract
Rifamycin-B by itself is not active. The activity is mainly due to the presence of the activated forms, namely rifamycins-O, -S and -SV. Some quinonimino- and hydrazide-derivatives of rifamycins show good antimicrobial activity against gram-positive bacteria and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Among the hydrazide derivatives, the activity increases as the number of substitutions on the N is increased. The activity of some amide derivatives and especially the diethylamide derivative is discussed. Keywords
