Abstract
The magnetic susceptibility of pure magnesium and strontium has been measured from liquid helium temperatures to 295 K for magnesium and up to 474 K for strontium. On the same specimens resistance measurements were made between 1.3 K and about 30 K. For very pure magnesium the susceptibility was constant within 0.5% in the temperature range 64 to 295 K and equal to 0.530·10-6 gm-1. For this material no resistance minimum was found although less pure magnesium gave a minimum at about 6 K. For strontium the susceptibility decreased linearly with increasing temperature, the value at 67 K being 1.40·10-6 gm-1 and the value at 474 K 0.88·10-6 gm-1. No maximum in the susceptibility, as observed earlier by Rao and Savithri, was found. Keywords
