Abstract
We have previously shown that during the administration of 1 drop of compound solution of iodine (about 6 mg. of iodine) daily to unselected hospital patients with exophthalmic goiter, there usually occurs as marked a reduction in basal metabolism as during the administration of much larger doses.1 The effect of administering 1/2 drop of the compound solution (about 3 mg. of iodine) daily has now been observed in twenty unselected hospital patients with the disease. METHOD The method was the same as that used in the hospital patients who received 6 mg. of iodine daily, except that 1 drop of a 50 per cent compound solution of iodine (roughly, 3 mg. of iodine)2 was administered daily in the metabolism laboratory instead of 1 drop of the undiluted solution. DATA The data of the twenty cases are summarized in tables 1 and 2. It may be seen that the average basalThis publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
