Abstract
We report measurements of the dichroism and birefringence of CdSn, and discuss the physical origin of these phenomena in chalcopyrite crystals. Generalizing from our results to other crystals provides a unified interpretation for previously unexplained results in several II-IV- and I-III- chalcopyrite crystals.
