Abstract
Near-threshold photoionization of the Kr 3d and Xe 4d subshells has been studied by measuring the emitted electrons with various fixed energies (0-10 eV) against photon energy. These spectra show peaks corresponding to the Kr(3d)-1 and Xe(4d)-1 ionic states as well as peaks due to the decay of the Kr(3d)-1nl and Xe(4d)-1nl core excited Rydberg states. The peaks due to the ionic states are observed to shift to higher photon energy, while their profiles are asymmetrically broadened. Both the effects are attributed to post-collision interaction (PCI). The Rydberg peaks enable accurate calibration of the photon and electron energy scales. The observed energy shifts of the photoelectron peaks and their lineshapes are compared with theoretical predictions of the semiclassical model of van der Straten et al. (1988).Keywords
