The ETHOS project: An introductory view

Abstract
This paper presents an introductory (and largely nontechnical) view of Project ETHOS, an Argentine‐Brazilian joint effort in research and development in Information Technology which aims to build a CASE (Computer Aided Software Engineering) workstation with several innovative features. In the first part of the paper we discuss aspects of the context within which the project has been launched and is expected to bear fruits. In the second part we present the rationale behind the decisions already taken in the project, as translated into research directions for Phase I (1988–1990).
