Abstract
The sol-gel coating process of stainless steel sheets with SiO2 films has been studied using CH3Si(OC2H5)3 as a starting material. The obtained SiO2 films had improved extensibility over that obtained from Si(OC2H5)4. Results of DTA-TG and infrared spectra showed that CH3 groups remained in the films even after the heat-treatment at 400°C for 1min. Thus, extensibility of these SiO2 films was ascribed to the flexible structure resulting from the remaining CH3 groups. Keywords
