Abstract
In order to effectively study alternatives to the treatment and disposal of wastewaters from individual homes, a study was conducted to evaluate the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of wastes generated by both rural and urban households. A survey of a number of households, in concert with the analysis of current information available in the literature, provided data to establish guidelines characterizing individual wastewater events within the home. A simulated wastewater was subsequently developed for further research on treatment and disposal alternatives.
