Abstract
The general section focuses upon U.S. economic dominance of Brazil, the Peruvian military regime, and the Andean highland economy. Karen Spalding, who teaches history at Columbia University, analyzes the relationship between Indian village, hacienda, and state in the Andean Highlands. Aníbal Quijano, editor of Sociedad y Politica (Lima, Peru), in an article suppressed by the Peruvian military government, assesses the con tradictions within the military and offers "strategy for proletarian struggle." Lastly, Syl via Hewlett, who teaches economics at Columbia University, contributes a study of for eign investment and dependency in contemporary Brazil.Keywords
