A general discussion of soil-plant interrelations, with reference to the development of research during the past 15 years. Emphasis is given to the nature of the absorbing power of plant cells. It is considered that the accumulation of mineral elements is dependent on metabolic activities of cells. Soil solution phenomena in relation to absorption are also discussed.
