INTESTINAL ABSORPTION OF AMINO ACIDS

Abstract
The rate of in vitro passage of S35-L-methionine from mucosa to serosa of rat intestine exceeded the D-isomer. The transfer rate from serosa to mucosa for the 2 isomers was the same. Vitamin Bg deficiency produced by L-penicillamine injection lowered intestinal absorption velocity of L-methionine, L-histidine or L-lysine, but did not affect the absorption rate of sugars. Vitamin B6 injection to deficient rats restored the absorption rate of L-amino acids, but vitamins B1 and B2 cannot replace B6.
