Abstract
Using a new quality control product, Urintrol, we detected at least one error in 89% of urinalyses performed in our laboratory. The specific problems of each technician were pinpointed. Through retraining, the overall incidence of erroneous analyses was reduced to 38%; however, three of six technicians gained little or nothing from the retraining program. During the study an instrument failure (refractometer) which had been ignored at the intermediate management level was detected. This equipment was replaced. Recommendations for improving the product are discussed. On the basis of this study we have initiated routine quality control in our urinalysis laboratory. Keywords
