Abstract
Acute organophosphate intoxication results in central CNS dysfunction manifested by both neurologic and psychiatric sequelae. In less substantially exposed individuals, neurobehavioral abnormalities are subtle or absent. In attempting to identify subtle abnormalities in such minimally exposed subjects, difficulty often arises in attempting to determine the precise degree of exposure and each individual''s preexposure level of performance on the test parameters being used. In the current prospective study, volunteers ingested small dosages of ethyl and methyl parathion and then, at prescribed intervals, were subjected to a highly sensitive battery of neurobehavioral tests including measures of memory, vigilance, information processing, language, proprioceptive feedback performance, anxiety level and depression. The subjects'' own preexposure performances were used as controls. This study is relevant to accidental and occupational exposures. This publication has 19 references indexed in Scilit:
