Abstract
A symmetry-adapted pair-correlation approximation has been used to calculate the electron affinity of the oxygen atom. The calculated electron affinity is 1.47 eV which is in reasonable agreement with experimental values. The present results add to the evidence that the energy difference between similar systems can be calculated with reasonable accuracy using symmetry-adapted pair energies. Keywords
