Abstract
Five species of the genus Syncephalis (Mucorales), namely. S. nodosa. S. cornu, S. sphaerica, and 2 unidentified were grown on a medium consisting of whole beef liver, 2% agar, 0.1% Difco tryptone and 0.4% K2HPO4. Optimum conditions for growing isolates appeared to be at pH 7-8 and temperature range of 18-22[degree]C. The ability of most isolates to sporulate was soon lost in pure culture, but was regained when the strains were inoculated again on their original hosts. None of 8 carbon sources and several liver extract preparations supported growth. It appears that some of the material in liver essential for growth is water-insoluble.This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
