Abstract
We obtain a first-order Lagrangian formalism treating gravity and spin-1 gauge fields on the same level, and invariant under any local Lie group. This is extended in a globally supersymmetric fashion only for a very restricted class of symmetries, these being specifically broken U(2,2) with either quaternionic or octonionic spin-1 gauge fields. A possible extension to include a spin-½ field is given. Keywords
