Abstract
DURING the past two years "gastric freezing" has been widely used in the treatment of duodenal ulcer.1 2 3 Recent discussions have shown that the value of this form of therapy has not yet been clearly established.4 Gastric freezing, nevertheless, has been widely publicized and popularized, and may come to be used uncritically, without sufficient recognition of the risks of the procedure.In the following case gastric freezing for chronic duodenal ulcer led to the formation of a very large gastric ulcer, with confined perforation, for which subtotal gastric resection became necessary.Case ReportA 44-year-old woman was admitted to the Graduate . . .
