Abstract
A case of massive gastro-intestinal hemorrhage followed by blindness is presented. The exact source of hemorrhage was not detd. The patient went into deep shock and had Cheyne- Stokes'' respirations at one point and a hemoglobin of 2.5 g./100 ml. Five days after the onset of hemorrhage the patient developed blindness which was permanent and characterized by loss of central vision. The patient was observed for 5 yrs. following the hemorrhage. The exact cause of the phenomenon is not known, but the literature on the subject is reviewed and various possibilities discussed.
