Abstract
A gas laser was used as a light source for a Mach-Zehnder interferometer. The operation of this system is compared with the familiar arrangement employing a mercury vapour lamp. High contrast fringes are demonstrated and it is further shown that the interferometer adjustments may be simplified when a laser is used. Keywords
