Abstract
A comparative study was made between the light-induced stomatal movement of white (without green mesophyll) and green leaves of variegated geranium, using the technic of continuously weighing detached leaves with closed stomata under a 20, 000 lux light intensity. The results obtained with mature, fully expanded leaves showed no apparent difference between the white and the green ones in regard to their stomatal reaction to light The author interprets these results as an indication that the photosynthetic activity of the guard cells of these leaves is the main cause of the shift in acidity that seems to be related to stomatal movement.
