Abstract
The data reported confirm Maier''s findings of a significant reduction of size in pinhole vision, but they show also a significant reduction of size in monocular vision although not as great as in pinhole vision. The author holds Maier''s explanation to be invalid, presenting evidence to show that there is neither a reduced retinal image nor near accommodation. The reduction in perceived size is attributed to the elimination of cues from convergence in monocular vision, and elimination of cues from both convergence and accommodation in pinhole vision. Keywords
