Obstacles to Helping the Dying

Abstract
A nurse-sociologist explores two situations that a study of dying as a hospital event has revealed to be common and troublesome for nurses. These involve patients who do not know their prognosis and patients whose behavior does not conform to expectations. The reactions of nurses and doctors to such situations can have a negative effect on the care these patients receive during their final days.
