Four Years’ Experience with Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) in the Elderly

Abstract
Forty-four patients established on CAPD were followed for up to four years. They were divided into two groups: Those under 65 years of age, and those older and the response to treatment evaluated. No difference was found in biochemistry, complications, frequency of peritonitis or mortality between the two groups. Also, the proportion changing to another mode of dialysis was similar for each. We have concluded that age should not be considered a barrier to successful treatment of ESRD by CAPD.
