Search forαα*rotational levels inBe8

The differential cross sections for ${}_{}{}^2{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{H}({}_{}{}^6{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{Li},\alpha ){\alpha }^{*}$ (20.08 MeV) and ${}_{}{}^2{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{H}({}_{}{}^6{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{Li},\alpha )\alpha$ were measured at 30° c.m. for $E_{\mathrm{Li}}=10\mathrm{} \mathrm{to} 31$ MeV. Possible evidence is presented for ${}_{}{}^8{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{Be}$ states decaying by ${\alpha }^{*}$ emission, near the $3^{-}$ and $4^{+}$ levels of an $\alpha {\alpha }^{*}$ rotational band in ${}_{}{}^8{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{Be}$ predicted by resonating group calculations.
