A Small Microwave E-Field Probe Utilizing Fiberoptic Thermometry

Abstract
The evolution of a small, isotropic, minimally-perturbing microwave E-field or power density probe using fiberoptic temperature sensors to determine the differential heating of a spherical susceptor is described. The structure, composition and fabrication procedure are presented. Performance data are then presented along with a discussion of the results of a variety of on-line measurements at 2,450 MHz in a waveguide or microwave oven. Methods of using the probe for both in-sample and out-of-sample measurements are presented. A companion paper containing theoretical backup and measurements at higher frequencies is referenced.
