Abstract
NEONATAL THRUSH is familiar to all physicians. Otitis media due to Candida albicans, however, to our knowledge, has not been reported in a newborn infant. It is our purpose to report bilateral mycotic otitis media in an infant in which mycotic involvement of the respiratory spaces was present. Review of the Literature A review of the available literature reveals three reported and documented cases of mycotic otitis media in older patients1-3 but none in the newborn infant. Report of a Case This 1,180 gm (2 ⅚ lb) Negro girl was born at Charity Hospital on Sept 17, 1959. The mother was an 18-year-old primigravida who had been admitted on Sept 16, 1959, because of vaginal bleeding of two days' duration. The expected date of delivery was Dec 7, 1959. The past history is significant in that a nephrectomy was performed in 1952 with a postoperative diagnosis of infected hydronephrosisKeywords
