Abstract
The great Egyptian jackal, C. a. lupaster Hemprich and Ehrenberg, 1832, occurs in North Africa and Egypt, and has been found in Sinai for the 1st time. The wolf C. lupus L., 1758 has not been recorded from North Africa or Egypt, but is known from Sinai. Evidence is given to show that C. aureus lupaster is not a large race of the jackal C. aureus L., 1758, but a small race of the wolf, C. lupus. The wolf occurs in North Africa and Egypt, and intergrades with the Arabian race, C. lupus arabs Pocock, 1934, in Sinai.
