Abstract
PIPERAZINE, available for oral use as the citrate,¶ has been found effective against pinworm and ascaris infections.1 2 3 Its structural formula is as follows: Widespread experience with this compound has disclosed virtually no significant toxic manifestations at recommended doses of 50 to 75 mg. of the hexahydrate per kilogram of body weight per day, and only mild diarrhea and occasional urticaria are listed in a standard textbook of pharmacology.4 Neurologic findings have been reported in England by White and Standen5 and by Sims,6 and in this country by Howie,7 in patients taking up to three times the recommended dosage.
