PRELYMPHOMATOUS AND LYMPHOMATOUS CHANGES SPLENOMEGALY OF NEW ZEALAND BLACK MICE

Abstract
The incidence of splenomegaly was 39.6% in the nontreated group and 41.0% in the treated group [castration plus administration of estrogen and urethan]; this difference was not significant. The thymic lymphoma group had an incidence of 27.6%, while that of the nonthymic lymphoma group was 67.9%, a significant difference. Histological findings of splenomegaly of the nonlymphoma groups were divided into 5 types: follicular, periarterial lymphatic sheath, red pulp hematopoietic, marginal zone and red pulp reticulosis forms. Histology of the spleen in the lymphoma group resembled each form of splenomegaly in the nonlymphoma group. Lymphoma based on immune abnormality of this kind of mouse in nonthymic lymphoma continuously takes place from prelymphomatous changes in the nonlymphoma group. Splenic origin and the role of marginal zone of nonthymic lymphoma in mice is discussed.
